The more that I think about it, the more it bothers me. I can't say that I feel particularly upset with putting away someone who was absolutely likely to kill one of us in that exact way, eventually - but, it didn't seem far off, either. The consistent distractions and trying to run us back around towards Ming Yi. The match in sizes. The parts of Steven's head that were missing. The frankly poorly done frame job.
Imagine that we just can't choose the correct person, and the system's rigged. [ gu yun snorts. ]

Either Ming Yi played us all for fools -- which right now I have no reason to believe -- or someone took a chance and seized it, but ... stumbled at the actually framing someone part. Putting a bloodied shovel in someone's room is a bit too obvious.

Right. The location, the wounds, the fact they both looked like they were done by the same weapon. There is the other option -- that we did have three killers and one of them is dead already, but I struggle to justify that one too.
Steven's case, however, seems unconnected. Or rather, how and where he died, while the other two are just a jumbled mess of similar incidents.
When I came back from the tea room, I thought it a bit surprising that people jumped straight to Steven in terms of all of the evidence we found.

[ moving on. ] To disguise footprints, maybe. They're obnoxiously large. Walking around in them must have been difficult, but they could get bloodied and be removed, then washed clean. My guess is that Luca created the cactus in the tea room, and the other assailant realized that could be an issue, so they went to fetch the clown shoes, then headed off to try and track Luca down. Luca may have injured the assailant in the tea room, and then left you the note when the assailant didn't immediately come after him - buying time and leaving 'breadcrumbs'.
He was likely attacked again midway through the music room. Perhaps he set a trap with the cacti everywhere, and was starting to write the second note when the assailant finally returned.

Why can't we theorise like this mid-trial? Other than "because it's a chaotic nightmare and we're always getting new things thrown at us to throw us off". Do we know how many times the Lust power worked, though? If it was on a time limit, that would make sense, but if it was a one off use then he couldn't have created cacti in both the tea room and the music room.

I wonder if our two killers were working together, and one of them betrayed the other. It could explain some of the crossover, and maybe the number of bodies versus linked evidence we have.

I'd agree. It's always possible, but I don't think Luca would've killed anyone. He was pretty aware of how much of a disadvantage he'd be in if he was targeted, or tried to kill someone. [ non-fighter, after all. ]
