[ at least it's something repetitive, and not too tasking to do -- plucking needles from a guys floppy lil hand -- after everything that's just happened. ]
Annoying as well.
... You really thought he did it? [ it's not an accusation, or anything like that. just a question. ]
He didn't do a very good job of making himself seem not guilty of something, that's for sure. [ maybe better he got voted now, before he put a drill through someone's head to "help" them. ]
No, he didn't. [ eventually, gu yun lifts his other hand, reaching up to rub between his own eyebrows where they're pinched together. this whole night has given him a headache. ]
The more that I think about it, the more it bothers me. I can't say that I feel particularly upset with putting away someone who was absolutely likely to kill one of us in that exact way, eventually - but, it didn't seem far off, either. The consistent distractions and trying to run us back around towards Ming Yi. The match in sizes. The parts of Steven's head that were missing. The frankly poorly done frame job.
Imagine that we just can't choose the correct person, and the system's rigged. [ gu yun snorts. ]
...I didn't want what happened to Beauregard to happen again. [ not after watching it happen to molly, he doesn't say. ] Especially not for Shi Qingxuan.

Either Ming Yi played us all for fools -- which right now I have no reason to believe -- or someone took a chance and seized it, but ... stumbled at the actually framing someone part. Putting a bloodied shovel in someone's room is a bit too obvious.
Whether the system's rigged or not, we're not doing a great job at picking the right person anyway. The system doesn't really need to help us out there. [ he'll set the needles he removes down far enough away that they're not going to accidentally re-stab themselves with them later. the whole process is at least helping his brain come down from a spiral of thoughts. ]
No. I would rather avoid that entirely. [ ... similar reasons. for what molly went through, and the thought of sqx going through the same makes him instantly livid. ] But short of going back through the cases individually and trying to separate them out, we don't even know how many killers we were looking for.
[ thanks buddy. why do you think he was out here picking needles.
gu yun listens along to what yuri says, nodding. they're on the same page, it seems - they usually are. it's easier to think about the logic of the case itself removed from the trial, too. ]
Mn. I think the same. Steven's case, and then Luca and Vlad's. Right?
Right. The location, the wounds, the fact they both looked like they were done by the same weapon. There is the other option -- that we did have three killers and one of them is dead already, but I struggle to justify that one too.
Steven's case, however, seems unconnected. Or rather, how and where he died, while the other two are just a jumbled mess of similar incidents.
When I came back from the tea room, I thought it a bit surprising that people jumped straight to Steven in terms of all of the evidence we found.
[ because there was a lot in there, and a lot of it was cactus needles. ] The scalpels were likely what killed them, and that odd tablecloth had something to do with it. I can't help but think it started there.
[ i think my one braincell had died at that point. ]
Luca spent a fair bit of time in the tea room as well, I think. But why go there that night? [ ... ] He and Vlad both died in the music room, and Luca or someone must have gone to the kitchen to get the croissants in the first place.
...
And then what? [ this is where he just trips up. what the fuck are the croissants, luca. ]
Medb also said she used her Greed powers from the other week. It was just coincidental that it was used on a victim. Like Sheila using her Gluttony powers on Luca. Which suggests it might've been in effect on the night people died?
[ closes my fucking eyes ] Medb used her Greed power on someone on Lust's team. It lasted for a day.
[ ANYWAY ]
Luca's hand was likely affected overnight, though, you're right. It could be why the music room was such a mess. [ considering... if he was summoning cacti and also trying to fight off an attacker. ] I'd wondered if perhaps someone used despair's power instead, to fixate on a lost breakfast, which would tie the croissants to Luca.
That would explain why we didn't see any remnant of it on Friday, though, I'm trying to recall if I saw anyone acting particularly strangely beside Douman.
[ .... ] No idea who? Because Luca was on Lust's team. [ shocking. ]
It was. He had the large hand before we all passed out, and it was large until I examined his body. I guess it was frozen in time, so to speak, until I looked for injuries.
Then where does Vlad fit into it. Wrong place, wrong time? But surely he wouldn't have woken up unless someone was planning to kill him, or he was planning to kill someone. He had croissant in his mouth as well. [ sisi my head is spinning again. ]
It was used on Tuesday. I saw the effects of it in play. I need you to just trust me on this one. [ the look on his face says please don't ask me about it. yuri im begging you
anyway. theorizing: ] Agreed. And what happened to his suit? Why the hell was he naked? I checked to see if any of the pastries were missing from the tea room, and they weren't, but one of them, or both of them, were clearly in that room too.
[ he just. looks at him. he looooooks at him. ] Oh. Oh no, I'd love to hear this story. [ sorry gu yun. ]
Did someone slash it with a scalpel? Was he in the hot tub? The clown shoes had needles [ i hate this family ] in the soles, so whoever wore them was in the music room at some point. Why clown shoes?
[ he doesn't miss a beat, offering a grin. ] And you never will.
[ moving on. ] To disguise footprints, maybe. They're obnoxiously large. Walking around in them must have been difficult, but they could get bloodied and be removed, then washed clean. My guess is that Luca created the cactus in the tea room, and the other assailant realized that could be an issue, so they went to fetch the clown shoes, then headed off to try and track Luca down. Luca may have injured the assailant in the tea room, and then left you the note when the assailant didn't immediately come after him - buying time and leaving 'breadcrumbs'.
He was likely attacked again midway through the music room. Perhaps he set a trap with the cacti everywhere, and was starting to write the second note when the assailant finally returned.
And here I thought you were a fun guy, Gu Yun. [ hope he had a great time with, or walking in one whichever lust was hyped up on greed powers. ]
... [ whoa, sisi. ]
Why can't we theorise like this mid-trial? Other than "because it's a chaotic nightmare and we're always getting new things thrown at us to throw us off". Do we know how many times the Lust power worked, though? If it was on a time limit, that would make sense, but if it was a one off use then he couldn't have created cacti in both the tea room and the music room.
[ ... ]
I wonder if our two killers were working together, and one of them betrayed the other. It could explain some of the crossover, and maybe the number of bodies versus linked evidence we have.
[ ... but, actually... that's a good theory. ] Most of the powers worked for a day. Pride's was the shortest - only five minutes, and Sloth's was an hour. An hour or a day each could have been more than enough time for all of that to happen.
[ . . . ]
...You know, I think you might be onto something. So, either Vlad or Luca may have been a killer after all - I'm leaning towards Vlad, I think. Luca's actions seem defensive to me.
So it is possible. And music room was where he barricaded himself [ c...cacticaded? ] to try and outlast his killer.
...
I'd agree. It's always possible, but I don't think Luca would've killed anyone. He was pretty aware of how much of a disadvantage he'd be in if he was targeted, or tried to kill someone. [ non-fighter, after all. ]
Mm. I think that makes the idea of him setting a cacti-laden trap and leaving a trail and a couple of notes more plausible. Not to mention, Vlad did have pastry residue in his mouth - so, he might've just picked one up, for all we know.
It seems more likely. Avoidance, and keeping someone away sounds like more his style. [ ... ] Were the clown shoes just for the footprints, or do clowns have thicker soles...? I'm not sure why the killer couldn't have just walked through the cacti in normal shoes, so they must've already had them on.
