The line between saving and protecting is thin. And I don't think one is better than the other, it's just the meaning you attach to it -- protecting someone because they owe you something, or they can provide something in the future isn't any better than saving someone for a purpose.

.... I just saw a memory of Fukuda-san's earlier this week - and he told me to keep quiet about it. I wouldn't say that I really did that...
