Maybe that's enough of a reason for us to vote then. If we have a clear enough idea of what happened -- [ ignoring that they THOUGHT they did with this case until that modly bombshell of an announcement ]-- and enough people are voting for it, we make petty spite voting harder to pull off.
[ siiiiip. ]
Case in point - I have no idea why that Vlad guy had the second highest amount of votes. Unless there's something I don't know about him. [ he hasn't really spoken to him. ]
Probably just people getting upset that they were asked to take off their clothes for the investigation and he came off kind of skeevy about it? Even if technically the content of what he said wasn't wrong...
[that's just his guess though]
But...
[ . . . ]
I don't know if I buy that we have to kill people off in the first place. It still doesn't seem right.
... Bit of a risky thing to take their annoyance out on, wasn’t it?
[ IMAGINE IF WE’D TUTORIAL WEEK’D LISA. ]
Probably not. But I think they just allowed for it... or hopefully it’s just that. Let a bunch of people loose with “indulgence” as their only goal and someone might stretch the boundaries of what counts as indulging at some point.
Some people here aren't exactly going out of their way to minimize risk.
[just
everyone is so happy to admit they're a murderer]
But I met the trial system, Leclerc-san. Even the idea that votes have to lead to death doesn't make much sense, right? It's such an easy system to abuse.
The pamphlet said about justice, in the event that someone abused it. [ ... ] What's justice to you, Mineo? Because where I'm from a life for a life isn't so weird.
What is weird is... the whole set up of it. Why was Endorsi involved? If we got it wrong why did there have to be justice anyway? It's not like there aren't false accusations and deaths for the sake of political maneuvering, but the Avatars know who did it. [ ... ] Unless they don't have any control over what happens after a trial either.
... I don't know. They talked like Greed-san's the one who set up the system so - I gotta talk to them again.
[he answers that
first.
because the idea of asking what justice is to him.... he looks away.]
.... I think -
It's hard to say what justice is. Even if it's a definition just for me I don't know if I can call it one thing - not when everyone argues about it. Especially here, when everybody's lives are different and if I say that 'life for a life' is crazy - that'd invalidate a lot of how you all live. I don't wanna do that.
I feel like... all I know is what justice isn't right now.
When I asked, I was told they only have control over half of what happens at the weekend. But it wasn't specified which half. [ ... ] If you think it sounds like Greed set up the system I'd... hesistantly say it's more likely the trial is their doing.
But I just don't know for sure. [ he knows he hopes the inflatable murder maze wasn't their doing but you never know. ]
[ ... pff. ] You can invalidate it if you like, it's a flawed system, easy to corrupt and impossible to take back if you've made a mistake.
I agree that putting two people through a game for their lives isn't my idea of justice though.
.... we can ask, I guess. The second half was weird - with all the spikes in what's normally out there for children. I don't really get it.
[but he just sighs and listens to yuri's explanation]
This is flawed - none of this is justice. The idea of having to figure out what happened to somebody's life in nine hours, and a system where you gotta vote or else someone could just decide to kill Masters-san for no reason - and then the idea that people should be competing for their lives in the first place just because we agreed to be here. None of that's right.
[he crosses his arms and looks away]
... but some people don't even have laws where they're from. Or they're in wartime.
I don't think that I... as someone who's grown up with laws and got to live in peace most of my life - should get to say that my justice is better than anyone else's. Not when people have been hurt way worse than I have.
That thing really is normally for kids? [ ... ] And the spikes were.... not what normally happens. Right?
[ spare this ye olde he knows deep down that spikes probably aren't meant to explode from kids play toys but honestly? he's unsure. ]
Wartime has its own set of rules, they're just... complicated and loose. Ultimately, here we're all the same page. If you think our justice should be different, then do what you can to change it. Get everyone to vote, get everyone to try harder at solving all this in the first place, you won't be the only one trying to change things. That much I already know.
Yeah - normally all you do is just bounce and play around on it. Maybe you dodge, but since it's normally soft, it's impossible to get hurt. [mostly. sometimes you slam into other kids inside. it's fine, irrelevant because it's still not spikes]
.... I don't know if you can make justice out of this situation, Leclerc-san. At least, not the way I agree with. Even if we found who killed Suoh-san, I don't know if I can say 'that person deserves to die'.
[ . . . he runs a hand through his hair]
But... I guess I can try. I'm not really a convincing or smart guy....
Then what are you looking to do? Complain about how things are but not do anything to change it?
[ ... ]
I'm not here to be your personal confidence booster. I'm just saying you're not the only one that wants to pick apart what's going on here, and see what we can do it change things, if it's possible. If not, we minimise the damage as best we can. If we can.
Anything's better than just sitting around doing nothing.
he's very right, and it sounds familiar - and to hear the callout of making yuri his 'personal confidence booster' makes him flinch a little. he's used to that kind of language but not from someone he's fairly new to knowing but.....
he's right.
the sloth tattoo feels like it's burning on the back of mineo's hand and he flinches a little, turning away and rubbing the back of his neck]
... yeah, Leclerc-san. You're right. Sorry - I'll get out of your hair. Thanks for the cocoa.
Running from things doesn't improve them. I'm not here to boost your confidence. But I am here to, I don't know, not die in this place and find a way to get what I came here for. That's something we can all work for.
I'll be waiting to hear what you can get out of the Avatars.
[he pauses right before he makes it out the door and - lets his hand rest against the frame of it, sloth tattoo on the back of his hand and feeling like a brand. and he doesn't turn back as he admits]
.... I don't want you to die or get hurt, Leclerc-san. I don't want to hurt anybody.
[he'd said that, when he was drunk and babbling - but it's true. in his heart, even for all his volatility and anger, he doesn't have it in him to truly condemn people. which is what this place is asking him to do.]
.... but I'll do work. You don't have to doubt that.
[even if it's just for everybody else, because he can't find answers good enough for himself. he'll walk out afterward, silent.]
