My people. Maybe my country, it'd be a small one that no one really knows about if it was though.

That must be stressful for you to hold all that on your back as a leader, no matter how many you have to look after.

It's fine. It's what has to be done.

Oh? You aren't the only one at the head? Then again, I guess every king has their entourage...

But you're the leader of your people, are you not? Still a king, in some fashion.

God, no. Don't call me a king. Sometimes you just get looked to more than other people and that's less a kingship and more a weird elected pattern.

...Let me guess, you have no love lost for royalty.

[aubins]

I'm not inflexible. If royalty does good, then I have no issue with them.

...But is there such a thing as "good" royalty?

[aubins]

There's always gonna be flaws in a system where you inherit by blood. But I don't think than instantly makes someone good or bad, so to speak.

If they're trying -- really trying, then they're a cut above others. Even if there's still a long way to go, and a lot to do.

[commedia]

Would you want to live in a world like yours where there are people in charge, but people will be tossed away in the pursuit of power....or a world where everyone lives equally, but there is no one to lead? Which is better?

[aubins]

... Both are bad in their own ways. Leaders drive change and development through, but end up with too much power in their hands more often than not. Mess up and pick the wrong person to lead and you've created a tyrannical reign.

Equality is an ideal, but sometimes people flounder without a unifying, driving force. It's difficult to say.

[commedia]

It is. And yet, it is an impossibility for a perfect system to exist, you know.

And if you get rid of that system...all it will do is invite chaos, or another system to fall into place that may be worse than before. Peace and prosperity are short-lived things.

[aubins]

It is.

You can keep a cycle going, but people ultimately clash. How badly depends on whatever situation you have in place -- mass chaos, or calculated conquering. Or, those are a couple of the usual brackets.

Ah...humans are humans. That is the fault of it all. In the end, none of them are perfect dolls.

People will always have things they desire, above all else. And those desires push them to fight and take what they think they deserve.

[aubins]

Dolls is a bit... [ he wrinkles his nose. ]

But we are all prone towards selfishness, I'll give you that much. Even if you're trying to do good, there can be ulterior motives attached.
