Avatars know who killed, so they knew from the beginning Childe was the killer. I can imagine they'd be agitated knowing what was likely going to happen.
I'm not sure. And they might not be able to tell us. But if it works out for us, and for them, then it's worth getting the items back to them, don't you think?
