Haven't seen my mom in a while. She'd cook for me, sure, if I was there. But I can't really keep running back home whenever I want someone to make food for me.

I was ... working, I guess you could say. And then I was enrolled at a military academy for a while.

Of course they do. But before I joined the academy no one else was going to make sure I was fed. [ for the most part.
