That's a big thing with Samurai. It's about honor and loyalty for all of them.

... And interesting looking swords. Honour and loyalty is all well and good, but not really going to help them against someone who uses both of those things more loosely.

You just need to think of honor differently, more like fighting for your country or your leader. In that case, all is still fair in war.

Kind of, but Samurai are loyal to their squad leader more than the emperor. That's what I've read, usually.

Similar in principle though, isn't it? Loyalty to the point of blindness is... well. No better than no loyalty.

Fortunately, their squadron leaders are usually samurai, too. Doesn't mean they don't do horrible things in the name of the shogun or whatever. Still not too different, except in a handful of people, there are bound to be some good in there.

Yes. They existed—actually, they're part of history in my country. Knights and holy kingdoms are more of the western world's thing.

Oh, it's commentary more than anything. Trust me, I've seen people follow decorated fighters and leaders straight into wars for causes I don't necessarily disagree with, but using methods to obtain that cause I think are recklessly stupid.

Well... we use swords like that sometimes where I'm from -- a Wo Dao? It's a specialised blade, but we don't have samurai that use them.

I see! If I remember correctly "Wo Dao" is Chinese for "Japanese sword." I wonder how the name was coined in your world.
